Student Moving Checklist
A complete checklist for students moving into new accommodation near campus. Stay organized and make your move smooth.
Before Moving
- Confirm move-in date with landlord in writing
- Get a copy of signed tenancy agreement
- Take photos of the property condition
- Pay deposit and first month rent (get receipts)
- Arrange for utilities connection (water, electricity)
- Confirm security arrangements and access
On Moving Day
- Inspect the property with the landlord/caretaker
- Document any existing damage in writing
- Test all taps, lights, and locks
- Note meter readings for water and electricity
- Get emergency contact numbers (landlord, caretaker, plumber)
- Locate nearest hospital, police station, and shopping center
First Week
- Set up internet if needed
- Meet your neighbors and building caretaker
- Locate your nearest bus stop or matatu stage
- Find nearby shops, laundry, and food vendors
- Register your address with your university
- Join campus and local community groups for support
